Steering Committee Meeting Minutes from November 17, 2008

Call to order: 6:30 by Steve Lamiell, President

Member present: Steve Lamiell, Sandy Zorn, Rosemary Norton, Tim Hisrich, Pat Wesson, Marty Hurley, Darryl Paden, Jim Reinhard, Cyndi Hofacre.

Steve opened with an invocation.

Officer Chris Heslop was introduced and he gave a description of how he and his dog would patrol the neighborhood during the holiday season. There was discussion with Chris with regards to the park traffic as well as traffic in the neighborhood. Some discussion was held as to his availability if we hired him to patrol at random times throughout the year. He stated that he would be open to that plan. Chris stressed the importance of him know about vacant homes. Cyndi Hofacre gave him a copy of the grid showing vacant houses that we are aware of at this time. Chris gave us his E mail address (cpdbadboyz [at] yahoo [dot] com) so we could let him know of any concerns.

Steve opened the meeting with some information as to coming plans. He will be meeting with Bob Fay for further discussion and planning. Steve reported that it would cost $20.00 an hour to hire a patrol officer during the holiday season. This price includes the use of a Canton City PD cruiser and gas. It would cost approximately $2.500 for a 31 day coverage. It was discussed and determined to move forward with the hiring.

There was discussion with regard to E mail notification or flyer notification to get our communication moving forward to the neighbors. This is a problem in getting information out as not many of the watch coordinators have been attending meetings. There was much discussion as to what would be the best method.

We will be addressing that issue in the coming months.

Cyndi Hofacre gave a brief report as follow up to the Neighborhood Party. The church had done much to accommodate us and Cyndi proposed a donation be made to the church. Marty Hurley motioned and Pat Wesson seconded that $50.00 be donated to New Vision UCC. Motion carried. Cyndi also reported that she would not be doing the party next year as she had done it since 2004. All information is documented and in notebook form to be passed on to the next person.

Steve Lamiell reported that his wife Tammy would like to have an Easter Egg hunt in the park this spring. Details to follow at a later date.

Steve asked for some feedback as to what days we would be available if we changed the meetings from Monday to another night. This would be done to accommodate council representatives. Discussion was held as to how to hold their input to an allotted time so as not to overtake our meeting. After a discussion it was determined that Tue., Wed. or Thur. would be OK with more preference towards Tue. The time of 6:30 seems agreeable. Steve will look into availability of the center and get back to us at a later date.

There was also some discussion as to adding some additional meeting nights. One could be a formal session with minutes and reports etc. The other would be more of a planning meeting.

Steve reported that the Fire Station is a done deal.

Adjournment: 8:15pm.
