Steering Committee Meeting Minutes from May 21,2007
Call to order: 6:30 PM
Members Present: Bob Fay, Rachel Korzan, Pat Silagy-Wesson, Sandy Zorn, Cynthia Hofacre, Tim Hisrich, Darryl & Peggy Paden, Joe Hunter, Rosemary Norton, Lyn Milnes and Rick Miller
Old Business:
- Zoning variance denied for Market Ave lot at 36th at meeting on May14th
- Fire was reported in park
1st Vice President’s Report: given by Darryl Paden and Rick Miller
- Total of 146 members paid for 2007
2nd Vice President’s Report: Crime Report given by Pat Silagy Wesson
- March 2007 had total calls of 19 (2 Theft and 1 Breaking and Entering)
- April 2007 had total calls of 22 (1 Theft and 1 Breaking and Entering)
Treasurer’s Report: given by Lyn Milnes
- Total Revenue for 2007=$6,507.00
- Expenses for 2007=$1,578.35
- Revenue over expenses=$4,928.65
New Business:
- Will be purchasing liability insurance for $1,000,000.00 for Party In The Park
- Stark Community Grant was giving to Market Heights Association for $3,000.00
- Calling Chris about speeding on Harvard Ave
- Currently have 28 vacant houses in neighborhood
- House on 32nd street has been called in for high grass, trash, down spout problem and rubbish; gentleman owning this vacant house has Bench Warrant out for his arrest for not maintaining property
- 25th street Fire Station my be restored
- Urban Design Speaker: gave suggestions on how to keep our neighborhood beautiful and to attract people to Downtown Canton; he suggested that for downtown that we create livable and suitable communities, enhance public recreation, protect national and cultural residence, and to stimulate economic property; When he drove around Market Heights he had a few suggestions as well....need to have at least 15 trees planted on 34th street, but as a city we need to plant 50 trees in 2008, 50 trees in 2009 and 40 trees in 2010 (city will provide all this, but we have to water); if we follow historic guidelines then 25% comes off taxes; to cut down on speeding he said that we could also have tree lawns created at 8 inches instead of 3 inches; also suggested building a trail around community or park
