Steering Committee Meeting Minutes from January 16, 2006
Call to order: 6:00 PM
Members Present: Bob Morrow, Darryl Paden, Pat Silagy Wesson, Bob Fay, James Golden, Jen Golden, Tim Hisrich, Niki DiCola, Tom Sherer, Rosemary Norton, Rick Miller, Cindy Hofacre, Marie Malemee, and Emil Alecusan
Excused Absences: Krysten Neal and Marilyn Poulos
Minutes Approved: Motion to approve meeting minutes for November made by Tom Sherer and Bob Fay
1st Vice President’s Report: given by Darryl Paden and Rick Miller
- 6 new members since last meeting in November 2005
- $403.00 collected for 2006 memberships
- Membership Cards are available to give to Area Coordinators for those members who have paid; motion to approve cards made by Pat Wesson and Cindy Hofacre
- Received Change of Address Confirmation for new PO Box; Confirmation letter was given to Bob Morrow
- Meeting flag was in old mail box at church; assumption that church gave us the flag; flag was given to Bob Morrow
2nd Vice President’s Report: Crime Report given by Pat Silagy Wesson
- Crime appears to have increased in December 2005, as compared to previous years; most of with are accidents with no injury
- Alarms set off up to 40 total
- 30th Street home had some Christmas decorations stolen
- 33rd Street home had someone attempt to break into Storage Shed, but not successful
- 32nd Street had theft/domestic issues; garage was opened found open with tractor and snow blower missing
- December 14th at 30th Street and Logan, a man about 35-40 years of age, in a dirty read are with temp tags and broken rear window, tried to get a girl walking home from school around 2:30pm, into his car; no further word on this incident; appeared in local newspaper and Bob Morrow contacted Detectives in Canton
- Still need Area Coordinators for areas 1, 2, 6 and 29
- Currently have $728.50 for security
- At this time we pay $15.50 per hour for security; this type of security can only call Canton Police if there is a problem; they do not carry a weapon and cannot make any arrests; for $20.00 per hour Canton City Police with weapons and K-9 Dog will patrol Market Heights
- Motion to speak about security issue at next meeting made by Bob Morrow and Tim Hisrich
Treasurer’s Report: given by Bob Fay
- Memberships have dropped for 2005; those who have paid in the past are continuing to pay
- Bob Fay handed out sheets that show a break down of the past year expenses and our checking account balance for 2005-2006 (coming into January 2006)
- $8273.00 is Revenue over expenses but that was due to grant money given in 2004 and spent in 2005
- Reasons for less spent in 2005; Neighborhood Directory was no printed, spent less on Park Party and missed security in 2005
- Motion to approve report was made by Bob Morrow and Bob Fay
- Officially audited for 2005 and report was excellent; Met By-Laws and Bob Fay’s records were very thorough
- Reimbursement forms have to be filled out and invoices attached by person who is requesting reimbursement; can obtain form from Bob Fay
- Suggestion was made to track membership and grant money separately
- Treasurer needs to have copy of any grants give to Market Heights Association
Old Business:
- Bob Morrow currently shows there are 471 homes and 34 lots (not all build able) in Market Heights
- 59 Million Dollars in market value based on County’s appraisal
- Upcoming Newsletter will list average square footage; average tax value is $68.50 per sq ft.; this will help those who are selling homes, to know their true worth
- April 2006 is target date to have Neighborhood Directories printed and delivered
- New physical address for Market Heights Association is PO Box 9052, Canton Ohio, 44711 (located at Cleveland Ave. and 26th Street Post Office)
- Bob Morrow has key to PO Box; Bob completed Change of Address form in December 2005
- Park Committee Report: given by Emil Alecusan
- Cindy Hofacre agreed to assist Emil on the Park Committee
- At March meeting a possible volunteer clean up day in the park will be discussed; Emil will check with Steve Lamiell for approval
- An evaluation will need to be done before next meeting to find out what all can or should be done in the park
New Business:
- Motion made by Emil Alecusan and Cindy Hofacre to meet at CJCC for $105.00 yearly for 2006; this includes 6 meetings plus 1 general meeting)
- Motion approved by Bob Morrow and Jennifer Golden to meet on the 3rd Monday of each odd month at CJCC
- Motion was made by Tom Sherer and Darryl Paden to change By-Laws to read dates between September thru November
- November 4, 2006 will be the next Annual Meeting
- Bob Morrow will check with CJCC to see if we can meet in a bigger room for our Annual Meeting on November 4, 2006
- Jennifer Golden will make sure to amend By-Laws at our next meeting in March
- Motion was made by Tom Sherer and James Golden to make this years Garage Sale dates as follows, May 5th and 6th and September 22nd and 23rd
- Park Party is scheduled for September 9, 2006
- Grant for 2006 project will be written and submitted by James Golden
- Rick Miller volunteered to take and complete Leadership course to be able to apply for grants in the future
- Bob Morrow and James Golden will be meeting to go over expenses to submit for 2006 Grant
- Proposing 5 Newsletters to go out in 2006, ranging from $180-$240.00 total
- Newsletters will be mailed to approximately 480 homes; we will print 500
- 2 Flyers for 2006 will be printed for about $85.00
- Cost to print Directories in 2004 was $565.00; 2006 estimated cost at about $600.00
- $42.000.00 was estimate given to Bob Morrow to complete sidewalk and curb project for park area and islands on Harvard
- Will do one sidewalk a year, starting with East Harvard in Park; Cost is $7650.00 without curb; motion to approve project was made by Emil Alecusan and Darryl Paden
- Tree Replacement Program has been placed on hold; will be an on going project
- Area 12 was taken over by Tim Hisrich to replace Shawn Thomas
- Motion made by Tom Sherer and Pat Wesson to replace American Flag in park with Tough Tex Flag for $128.75 (includes installation)
